Curriculum Intent & Implementation
At Trust-Education Group Ltd, we are committed to empowering young people to achieve their full potential. We celebrate individuality and strive to remove barriers to learning, ensuring all students have equitable access to positive outcomes. Every learner is at the centre of our approach, and we are dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where every student can thrive.
Our curriculum is shaped by four core principles designed to support character development and personal growth. These principles help young people build essential skills and confidence, preparing them for a successful return to mainstream education or for life beyond our provision.
We understand that many of our learners have complex and varied needs, and we take a person-centred approach to planning individual learning pathways. Often, a learner may present with an immediate barrier to engagement that doesn’t reflect their full needs or root challenges. To meet these needs, we offer three flexible learning options:
Core Learning Pathway
This pathway aligns with the national curriculum but is adapted to suit individual need within a structured and supportive framework. It aims to:
- Make English and mathematics central to the learning experience
- Provide flexible delivery of subjects to engage every learner
- Foster a passion for learning through personalised and meaningful content
Integrated Pathway
The integrated pathway blends academic learning with practical, interest-led activities. Each learner’s pathway is planned around their strengths and goals, offering a combination of classroom-based and experiential learning opportunities.
Personal Development Pathway
The personal development pathway is an enrichment-focused offer tailored for learners who benefit more from hands-on, interest-driven activities rather than traditional classroom settings. It promotes growth in confidence, resilience, and essential life skills through personalised experiences.
Curriculum Delivery Approach
Our curriculum is delivered through a structured five-year model across key stages 3 and 4. This ensures that learners experience a coherent, ambitious, and inclusive journey with clear progression and preparation for post-16 life.
We carefully sequence key concepts in each subject to build knowledge over time. Long-term and medium-term plans outline essential knowledge, which is revisited regularly. Lessons follow a consistent structure of retrieval, new learning, application, and reflection to support long-term memory and reduce cognitive overload. Elklan-informed strategies are used to support speech, language, and communication development.
In key stage 4, learners can achieve recognised vocational qualifications alongside core subjects such as English and maths. These qualifications are selected to be accessible and relevant, helping to rebuild engagement and pave the way for future pathways.
Our approach is grounded in quality first teaching, with personalised instruction, strong staff-to-student ratios, and trauma-informed practices. Learning environments are inclusive, emotionally safe, and responsive to a range of SEND, SEMH, and EHCP needs.
Assessment and Progress
We use a range of assessments to monitor progress and inform teaching. On entry, learners complete baseline assessments and, where appropriate, additional tools such as TALC 2 to assess language comprehension. This helps staff adapt teaching approaches based on cognitive and communication needs.
Formative assessment is embedded in all lessons, supporting real-time feedback and adaptation. Summative assessments are carried out at key points in the year to track progress, identify learning gaps, and plan interventions. These assessments also inform ongoing curriculum development and staff training to support continuous improvement.
